2015 Filing Deadlines: Save These Dates

Filing deadlines can creep up on you, and there’s nothing more annoying than having to pay a hefty fine that could have been easily avoided.

Below is a list of key filing deadlines for the 2015 financial year. Take a few minutes to save each relevant filing date to your calendar, set a reminder, and avoid missing a deadline for the rest of the year.

January 15: Estimated Quarterly Payments

The fourth (and final) estimated quarterly payment for 2014 is due today, unless you file your taxes and pay in full by February 2.

February 2: Forms 1099 and W2 Postmarked

Today is the deadline to fill out and mail all forms 1099 and W2 to independent contractors and employees, respectively.

March 16: Corporate Tax Returns Due

Today is the deadline to file your corporate tax return (forms 1120 and 1120S), or apply for an extension.

March 16: Transition to an S-Corporation

If you want your business to operate as an S Corporation business structure for the 2015 tax year, today’s the deadline to file Form 2553 with the IRS.

March 31: File W2 and 1099 Forms Electronically

If you’re filing electronically and you have employees, today is the deadline to electronically file copies of your W2 and 1099 forms for 2014.

April 15: Individual and Partnership Tax Returns Due

Today is the deadline to file individual and partnership tax returns (forms 1040 and 1065), or apply for an extension.

April 15: Estimated Quarterly Payments

April 15: IRA Contribution Deadline

If you’re contributing to an IRA and you haven’t already fully funded your account for 2014, this is your last day to make a contribution to traditional and Roth IRAs.

June 15: Estimated Quarterly Payments

September 15: Estimated Quarterly Payments

September 15: Corporate and Partnership Returns Due (with Extension)

If you were granted an extension on your 2014 taxes, today is the final deadline to file forms 1120, 1120S, 1120A, and 1065.

October 15: Individual Tax Returns Due (with Extension)

If you were granted an extension on your 2014 taxes, today is the final deadline to file form 1040.

November 1: Start Making Tax Moves

If you plan to do so, now is a good time to speak with your accountant about making any tax moves for 2015.

December 31: Tax Moves Deadline

January 15, 2016: Estimated Quarterly Payments

The fourth estimated quarterly payment for the 2015 tax year is due today.

 

Keep in mind that while these dates are common to many U.S. business owners, your business may also need to meet other filing deadlines and requirements not listed in this post. Do your research and work with your accountant early on to ensure you stay ahead of the tax man during the 2015 fiscal year.
